Gallipoli Turkish Memorial
The Canakkale Martyrs' Memorial (Canakkale Sehitleri Anıtı) commemorates the service of about 253,000 Ottoman soldiers who participated at the Battle of Gallipoli, which took place from April 1915 to December 1915 during the First World War. It is located within the Gallipoli Peninsula Historical National Park on Hisarlık Hill in Morto Bay at the southern end of the Gallipoli Peninsula in Canakkale Province, Turkey. It is often referred to simply as "Abide" - Monument.
The Turkish Memorials's base is 25 x 25 meters and it is 41.70 meters high. It has four 7.50 x 7.50 m. wide columns with reliefs on them. There is a museum under the memorial which has relics from the campaign such as weapons, bullets, binoculars, uniforms, maps and ammunition. The museum is currently closed for renovation.
The massive Turkish Memorial at Cape Helles was depicted on the reverse of the Turkish 500,000 lira banknote of 1993-2005.
